THIS EASTER HOIDAYS WE WELCOME TO 4MILE FARM
Seed, Sow, Sprout, Grow
Come and visit the farm these holidays to potter, tinker, create, build, paint, dig, grow and cook morning tea for the group as the Seed, Sow, Sprout Grow program unfolds, the season evolves, projects develop and friendships are formed.
THE WHY- Seed, Sow, Sprout, Grow was founded on the idea that everyone at the moment seems to be in a RUT! Work-kids- chores- school. Parents are running ragged in a systematic, weekly routine to “just get by”. Children seem to be over stimulated, exhausted and spending too much “down time” relaxing in front of a screen to “recharge”. Parents have lost or are losing their core connections with their children and children are seeing their parents as workaholics, taxies and extracurricular organisers. It is rare to see a parent: child relationship connect over a hands on project outdoors, which isn’t a “chore” or “work related”. The programs mission is to reconnect parents with their children, connect parents to other parents and children to other children by providing opportunities for relationship growth, resilience and connections through a hands-on, outdoor program.
THE WHO- The program is aimed at groups of people who are like minded and are seeking quality, fun times outdoors. It is developed with the shift worker parents in mind, the working parents or the parents who transport their child to the numerous extracurricular activities and only have the car rides to try to connect with them. It is also developed with the youth in mind who want to find new friends, explore their artistic, creative side or learn new skills. The program also encourages families who are wanting to reconnect with their children in a natural and neutral space on a 1:1 level, outdoors having more dirt time and less screen time, creating memories and building skills.
THE WHERE- 4Mile Farm will host the program. It is a privately owned, family run farm which opens its gates to all ages and abilities from all walks of life exposing them to the rural aspects of life and living. 4Mile farm allows quietness, serenity, calmness and a place where time slows down, skills are shared, memories are made and friendships are formed.
THE HOW- Metaphorically speaking, the visitors to this program are the seeds, and the program helps them sow, sprout and grow as an individual or within the group socially through new or re-established relationships and connections.
The program predominantly uses the community farm vegetable garden to facilitate all aspects of the program, using the participants interests, creativity, skills and knowledge in a nurturing and encouraging environment. The participants, as a group or as their own family unit will brainstorm, facilitate, share skills and knowledge to develop ideas and work together to sow and develop exciting enriching projects for the garden.
Participants will then sprout their ideas and bring to life their projects through creating, building and transforming old to new, trash to treasure, dirt to growth, all the while forming and sprouting new friendships and social connections in a fun, relaxed and private environment. From week to week, knowledge and skills will be shared and passed down through the groups who visit. The garden itself as well as the new friendships and connections will continue to evolve and grow as will the sense of community connection, sense of place, pride and ownership. 4Mile Farm is very excited to not only see the community garden blossom and bloom, but the community itself, and the newly formed relationships and connections with in it.
